Being a medical receptionist at your doctor's office is not an easy job. The 'phones ring constantly. The receptionist is expected to give priority to requests appointments to see people with urgent medical problems before they can afford to wait. Most days there are few slots available for appointments that people are called to demand one of these speed dating.
If you need to see your doctor early you had to convince the receptionist that you deserve a quick appointment. Here are 7 ways to do this:
1. Talk calmly and courteous. Treating the receptionist as an obstacle or a est of low intelligence will not help your cause. Learn the name of the receptionist in advance and use it when you call the office. "Hi Marilyn, this is John Smith calling ..." You want to be seen as fellow human beings, not just another demand, disembodied voice on the 'phone.
2. Be prepared to describe their medical issue to the receptionist. They are trained to respect your confidentiality and the doctor hopes to determine requests for the appointment to see the most urgent cases first. When the receptionist asks, "why you need to see a doctor?" See this request for information as an excellent opportunity (persuasive) explains why you need to be seen quickly.
3. Describe your symptoms by using the factual details. When the symptoms began? How high is the fever? Tell the receptionist if you have an underlying illness. A severe cough is a serious symptom if you have chronic asthma.
4. "His doctor told him to turn if you experience symptoms of" X "? If so tell the receptionist that because it means that your request for an appointment is the idea of doctor. That's all any receptionist needs to justify giving her an appointment. Warning: Never lie about whether his doctor told him back. The receptionist will discover and credibility will be destroyed.
5. If the receptionist does not suit you need a quick appointment to speak to the doctor may ask (or ask the doctor gives you a call back) so you can describe your symptoms to him. Another idea is to respectfully ask the receptionist if satisfy ask your doctor whether you should be seen quickly because of their symptoms?
6. If your doctor is 100% booked (and has told the receptionist he's keel hauled if some appointments are scheduled disallowed) then a good strategy to persuade the receptionist can occur that you really need an appointment and then ask if you can see another doctor in the same practice?
7. If anyone in your doctor's office can see you then your options are to wait until your doctor is treatment available or search elsewhere. You can attend a clinic without calling or (if the problem is severe and genuine emergency) emergency department at a local hospital. In these cases, it is especially important that you bring your daily health with you because no doctor will treat you without asking you basic medical history. If you see an emergency department, ask them to send a copy of any test result to your regular doctor office.
Most doctors are caring receptionists (if undertaken something) to people who want to be helpful. However, there are exceptions. My daughter had a couple of bad experiences with a receptionist at our dentist's office. She was so upset that she stopped going to that office. When I told my dentist worried what he really happened to hear about the experiences of my daughter. His immediate response was, "We try to train people so that does not happen but sometimes problems occur. If she had asked to speak would have rectified the situation immediately. "The lesson I took from this is that if you feel you have been reasonable but the receptionist does not have, does not remain calm and not to discuss the matter with your doctor.
